Well I tried my luck in the $150 satellite today at Crown, together with the other 500 or so players of verying standards to see if I could get some run good but more importantly, put some hands down on a tournament table.
Over the past 6 months, with Jackie playing more online and getting some coaching from Brendon Rubie, I have also learnt alot from him and would like to put these new learnings into practise. The 30K starting stack was a great opportunity for me to play a little poker, and what I did.
I built my stack to nearly 100K and was feeling great, playing well and generally feel like I had the table a little of balance.
Then in approximately 25min of play, I was out. I raised with AQ and the board came Q106J when all the money went in, with my opponent holding K10. 10 on the river meant that I shipped 30K to my opponent and then picked up KK to have a shorter stack shove his JJ into me. Well unfortunately I saw a J drop on the turn and I ended up losing another piece of my stack.
Well the final hit came when I shoved KJc on a 8c 7h 3c board and was called by 89o. It was GG me as I couldnt find any of my outs and I was sent to the rail.
I realised again today that poker is a brutal game and why I think creating a good mindset with focus on good quality processes day in day out is going to help you ride the waves, that can at times, turn you upside down.
Creating specific processes that will help you to stay focused on during your sessions will then help you determine whether you failed or succeeded when it comes to how you played that day. If you can remove results from being a factor in regards to whether you played well, poorly or in between, will help you to look at your game with a clear understanding of what your strengths and weaknesses are.
Having this mindset will help you to limit the damage that the run bad session's can have on you and allow you to get back on the bike and play as close to your A game the next time you hit the felt.
Thats what I am hoping to do tomorrow as I am planning on playing some MTTs on Tilt before the Mini FTOPS Main Event the day after.
Hopefully I will be able to title an upcoming Blog- Run Good:)
