We have completed our first offical day at the 2012 Master's and all I can say is- UNBELIEVABLE!! The anticipation & expectations from all of us were high, and none of us were disappointed!
It started with a 7.30am alarm and both Bryden and I hit the garage for an early workout. The house we are staying in this week has an old gym machine in the garage with some dumbells and barbells. Bryden worked on his core program that Dave Donatucci has created for him, and although this program requires Bryden to spend a lot of time on the ground, I can assure you it is ALL hard work!
B-Mac working his core!!
The morning then got underway at Augusta where we had to make a short stop at the Titleist Tour Van to get B-Mac a new driver head, as his old one had some decent scratches on it from falling off the back of a cart in Atlanta last week, his fault not mine:)

After getting his driver sorted, we headed to the range for a little fine tuning with his swing coach, Denis McDade. Bryden and I are always focusing on making sure we can implement any technical feels he and Denis work on into his Pre Shot routine, without losing any connection to the target and shot shape he is looking for. At times this can be tough, depending upon what he is working on, but today Denis was wanting Bryden to get a little more of an athletic set-up, which we felt was fairly easy to implement into his Pre Shot routine.
Afetr a little fine tuning, B-Mac and I headed to the 10th tee. Just as we got to the tee, an Augusta official came over the Bryden and said "Bryden, Mr Vokey would like a word with you". Bob Vokey, custom wedge maker for Titleist has made some custom wedges for B-Mac a few months ago and just wanted to see how they felt. Thats pretty cool on the 10th tee of Augusta. Bryden then hit 2 tee shots of 10, the 1st a sweet 3 wood from the front tee, the 2nd a Driver from the back tee. The 2nd ball drew around the corner, hugging the left side nicely. Or so we thought!!
As we got down to the fairway, we noticed a guy lying on the ground, we soon found out the 2nd tee ball had hit the guy on the fly, right on top of his forehead!! OUCH:(
After B-Mac had signed a glove, given the guy a ball and apologized, we then hit a sweet 6 iron to 10ft! The crowd on day 1 was amazing!! Very vocal and we could even hear roars coming from 16 when we were on the range-Pretty Cool!!
B-Mac was hitting the ball great, just chipping and putting around the greens to get a feel for them, and he wasnt disappointing the patrons. Chipping in from all over the greens to his pretend holes, discs that players use to resemble holes, was really getting the crown excited.
We got to the 16th hole and realized that the players were skimming shots over the water and onto the green. So after B-Mac hit a sweet 7 iron to 5ft, that nearly went in and had the patrons screaming at the tops of their lungs, it was B-Macs time to skim a ball. He hit a low 6 iron that skimmed accross the water and just found dry land.
The patrons weren't happy though! They were screaming for me to skim a ball over. Im just the caddie, but it didnt bother them! Now I know how strict Augusta is and I had been told that a caddie should not hit 1 ball on the course at all-EVER!! So as I was standing there being screamed at, I looked at B-Mac and he said, "Go Ahead". I couldnt help but think this was last thing I would ever do at Augusta, but also thought what a cool way to go out!!:) The next issue was I remembered that I was a left hander! Small issue I thought, as I grabbed a 5iron and turned it over ready to put a left handed swing on it!
I hit the ball approx 80% flush and it skipped accross the water, before dying about 70% of the way. I was given a roaring applause and couldnt help but think it was one of the cooler experiences of my life!!:)
After we completed the back nine, we headed in for a quick bite, followed by another short range session with Denis. Once this was completed we headed out to play the front 9. B-Mac hit the ball beautifully again and almost had a hole in one on the Par 3 5th hole, hitting it to 2ft with a pure 5iron. B-Mac was hitting it pure, with a small fine tuning range session to finish, before heading home to get ready for the Amateur dinner at the club.
B-Mac ready to hit up the Amateur dinner in his new Hugo Boss suit! Stylin:)
Well we unglamoursly had Pizza delivered as B-Mac had accidently taken the keys for the spare car to the Amateur dinner, so we were stuck at home! An early night will be good and I believe we are having a praccy rnd with John Senden tomorrow morning, so that should be fun!
We have Matt & Hamish from Golf Australia coming in late tonight as well, so will be great to have a few others added to our camp! With all this attention and hype, we have to make sure B-Mac is focused and ready to fire, which at this stage we have under control.
Look forward to writing about our day tomorrow and continuing to create positive momentum ready for Thursday 1st round tee time!!
