We all know the importance of keeping a solid maintenance plan on mechanical things we own such as cars, air conditioners as well as our body with consistent gym sessions and solid eating habits.
Over the past 10 years of being a Mental Game Coach, I have found there to be a lack of maintenance for our minds. Most of it has to do with a lack of education when it comes to our minds and what things may be invovled with building a maintenance program.
One of the best things for helping you maintain a strong mind is to try and challenge yourself and push the boundaries of your comfort zones. Comfort zones are one of the biggest things that hold us back, without ever really exploring what our comfort zones are.
If you can spend 30min exploring what comfort zones you may have either personally or professionally, write down the possible comfort zones that come to mind. Once you can begin to have clarity for the areas you need to develop, the next step is to create challenges that will push the boundaries of your comfort zones.
For me personally, one area I have always seemed to struggle with it eating. Now when I say struggle, I am not over weight and by some accounts, dont have an ounce of body fat to lose, but I know thats not true. We all want a nice flat stomach and solid six pack, but are we willing to do the small things to achieve them.
For me, the answer has been NO! After my back injury in 2000, where I was told I would never play sport ever again, I really had to focus on keepiong myself fit and healthy. I must say, I feel I have done that to approx 80% potential, but for me now in my life, it is time to begin to increase that to 90%+!!
That doesnt mean I cannot enjoy the finer things in life, but it means always keeping a eye on things and being in CONTROL of the decisions I make. High quality decision making is one of the secrets to success and this is what I am going to be focused on for the month of Febuary!
I have made a bet with a friend that if either of us sip one ounce of Alcohol for Febuary, we own the other person $500. For me, this is a challenge that I know will help me strengthen my mind, my body and help me push my comfort zones in regards to my eating a drinking habits.
Again, I dont drink very much at all, but its not about the Alcohol, even though I do love a cold beer a few times a week, its about setting your mind on a goal, and focusing completely on achieving that goal with self control, confidence and a belief that you CAN do it!
This is my challenge for Febuary, it would be great for you to create your own challenge for Febuary and help you expand your comfort zones. This will become a tool you can rely on when striving to achieve future goals!
For a lot of people, it is best to set small goals that you can achieve that will help you build the belief that you can achieve the more difficult challenges. Small daily goals will help and within approx 7-11 days, you will feel like you can achieve anything you set your mind too!
