Leave The Candy At The Door!!!

Yesterday I found myself catching up with a talented amateur golfer I have been working with for the past 15 months, Anthony Houstan from Melbourne. Anthony and I have been working together infrequently over the past 12 months, which is something I dont really like to do, but at times you have to allow players the space to grow.
Anthony had an interesting 2010 with it being the first year he was a full-time amateur golfer, working and playing golf trying to achieve his goals. He found the flexibility of having his license and the temptations that go with it, at times hard to balance, as well as a back injury, it was a tough year for him both on and off the course. But the great thing with Anthony was as 2010 came to a close, he had a good, hard look at himself and the path he felt he was on and whether that was going to help him achieve the goals he had set for himself.
Once he came to realise that he needed to make some changes, Anthony became super focused on being more professional as well as implementing a more balanced practise routine.
To say there was an immediate impact is an understatement, as he has started 2011 with a BANG!!
So far, he hasnt finished outside the Top 10 in any Amateur event and got his first win for the year this past weekend with a Win in the 72 Hole Traralgon Classic. Anthony's focus and determination was sparked by having a long, hard look at the things he perceived he needed to change to achieve his goals, and it is great to see results come flooding in the door after making these changes.

Another client of mine that has had a long hard look at himself over the past 12 months is Joe Hachem. Joe is the ultimate professional when it comes to wanting to win, at times possibly too competitive if there is such a thing. Over the past 6 months, Joe has taken control over certain processes that help him improve the level of his focus as well ensure that he is prepared to play his A game as soon as he sits down to play an event. Joe has played some great poker the last 6 months with some deeps runs, and we both feel he is close to another big win. Joe has recently left for a 4 week trip to the US consisting of events at the LAPC, NBC Heads Up, PokerStars Big Game and the NAPT.
Joe's first event was the LAPC WPT Event and he had another deep run, busting today on Day 4 finsihing in 33rd place. Joe was fairly short for the past few days and shows that he played focused, patient poker which is a key to Joe's success on the felt. When Joe is patient, he plays great poker and rarely makes a mistake, only being beaten by the cards.
This is a great start to the trip for Joe and I am excited about what the following few weeks will hold for him.

Again, another solid result coming from a player having a long hard look at themselves and seeing things as they are, not candy coating any aspect of their play or preperation, just seeing it for what it is. When you can do that, clarity begins to set in on exactly the areas that you need to fine tune and this provides you with an empowering state, as you have 100% control over these areas.

So I advise you to go away and have a long hard look at yourself, leave the candy at the door and you will see a clear path to your A Game!!!
