Well its been a crazy whirlwind 6 months since getting to Vegas for the WSOP in June and seems like I havent been home for much longer than 2 weeks at a time since then. Jackie and I spent 3 weeks in Macau and Cebu for the MPC and APPT Cebu, we then spent 1 week at home before heading up to Sydney for a few weeks.
The first week we were in Sydney was the Australian Open golf, where I had 5 clients playing in the event. Generally this is a tough week for me as the APPT Grand Final Main Event is on the exact same week, but this year the Main Event begun a week later. Thank God for that!!!
So the Aussie Open was played at the beautiful Lakes GC and both Adam Bland and Steve Jones made the cut, with Clint Rice,Bryden Macpherson and Michael Curtain all having the weekend off. I was extremely happy with all the players effort and from a performance point of view, they are all on track to what will be a great 2011.
During the first week, Jackie had been playing some of the lead up events in the APPT and ran deep in event 1 with an 11th place finish and almost another FT to add to her tally for the year.
The 2nd week saw the start of the Main Event where I had approximately 5-7 players in the field and when it got down to the money, I still had 3 players left.
Grant Levy headed into Day 3 short in chips but managed to double up a few times before running like the devil to finish in 18th position and Brendon Rubie also ran pretty poorly losing a few flips to finally finish in 15th position.
So it was left up to Jonathan "MonsterDong" Karamalikis to fly the Dare2Dream flag and that he did, going on to dominate the Final Table and take down the title and the $459,510 first prize.
It was great to see one of my playesr Win a big event, as my goal for 2011 was to see a D2D player take down the Aussie Millions Main Event, a WSOP event or any other major event around the world. Well we are ahead of schedule as Jonno has started the ball rolling which has motivated me tio make sure my clients are taking their games to a whole new level.
Jackie and I had the pleasure of staying at Brendons place over the few weeks in Sydney and Jackie and Brendon decided they were grinding online monday before we drove back to Melbourne, so I thought I would get the $33 Mini FTOPS up while sending a few emails.
Being aroung all this poker makes me want to hit the tables so badly, so when I get the chance to play now, I really enjoy it and also feel like I play solid focused poker.
I had my stack in a really healthy spot with approx 160K when we were getting deep, with only 822 runners left. From about 20,000 starters, this is pretty deep. I look down at AA and get a short stack to shove his 50K in the middle pre with K10o, the flop came 10 5 10 and me lose a fair chunk of my stack.
Two hands later I look down at QQ and get reraised by a player with just a little more than mine, I decide to put my tourney on the line and make the call. He opens 10 10, which was great to see, but luckily for me I know not to celebrate AT ALL untilt the river has been peeled. Yep, good old 10 9 3 flop!! GG me and now had more time for emails:(
Jackie has busted her few tournies so we were all just watching Brendon go deep in his last few tournies and approximately 7pm, he took down the $55 on Stars for $40K, so a great way to end the day.
We then went to an amazing restaurant in Sydney called The Winery at Gazebo on Crown. Amazing food, great atmosphere and the price was crazy good. My kind of restaurant.
We got back into Melbourne last night and I am now looking forward to the next 4 weeks of getting back into training and getting ready for a massive 2011.
I am really looking forward to 2011 and all the things that I have planned for Dare2Dream and the great results I am sure my clients will achieve!!
Merry Xmas All!!!
